Déborah Stephenson is a trusted lawyer in persons and family law. Those areas of practice interest her because she desires to make a difference for her clients that are going through hardships related to relationships or children. She offers rigor, honesty, and meticulousness while guiding her clients toward a sound resolution of their legal issues.
Since 2020, Me Stephenson guides clients on their legal journey while respecting their best interests. She takes on family matters, whether they be a divorce, the settlement of the financial aspects of a separation, custody issues, receiving, modifying or canceling support obligations and arrears. In addition, she advises clients on conflicts related to youth protection law, filiation and paternity, tutorship, change of name and person’s capacity.
Inspired to tackle environmental justice issues, Me Stephenson got involved in 2016 in the Environmental Law and Indigenous Law Association for the University of Ottawa and was its President in 2019. Additionally, she was a Workshop Facilitator in international environmental law in order to introduce it to forty students in their 11 th grade while developing their critical thinking.
Déborah Stephenson graduated from the University of Ottawa in 2019, simultaneously obtaining a Civil Law Degree and a Bachelor’s Degree in International Development and Globalization (LL.L & B.Sc.Soc.DVM). She received scholarships recognizing her academic excellence and has appeared on the Dean’s Honor List of her Law Faculty.
Passionate about access to justice, Me Stephenson worked for two years as Program Coordinator at the University of Ottawa for Pro Bono Students Canada. In recognition of the guidance, availability and active-listening she provided to the students during their legal volunteering project, she was the recipient of a prize awarded by her peers. Moreover, Me Stephenson was a Legal Assistant for the Outaouais Community Justice Center and Research Officer in social solidarity economy and municipal law for the Partners of the Aylmer Sector.
Driven by objectives and challenges, Me Stephenson also marked about 240 exams with short notice in “Droit des contrats nommés” and “Droit des obligations II”. Being thorough in all her work, her redacting and organizational skills were praised during New York’s 2019 National Model United Nations.
