DS Avocats is an international law firm with more than 400 professionals working in several countries around the world. The five (5) offices of DS Avocats Canada, located in Quebec City, Montreal, Ottawa/Gatineau, Calgary and Vancouver, specialize in business law, litigation and employment law.

The Financial Planning and Accounting team plays a key role in supporting the firm’s objectives, working with all practice areas to ensure rigorous and proactive financial management.

This is a one- year contract position to replace an employee on maternity leave.

Role description

We are seeking a Financial Analyst to join our team in Quebec City. This role, essential to our strategic financial operations, is offered in hybrid format, with three (3) days per week in the office and two (2) days working remotely.

As a Financial Analyst, you will be responsible for analyzing financial data, evaluating the firm’s past and current performance, and providing actionable recommendations to support management decision-making. You will oversee budget management, performance analysis, tax accounting compliance, and other tasks designed to optimize the firm’s financial management.

Main responsibilities

Financial analysis & budget management: Prepare and analyze financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, cash flow statement) and periodic budgets. Identify key variances and trends, propose strategic recommendations, and ensure rigorous follow-up to achieve objectives. Collaborate with internal teams to assess the financial impact of projects and initiatives.

Accounting & tax compliance: Oversee the management of trusts in accordance with Canadian provincial regulations. Validate and authorize trust transactions. Prepare and submit tax returns, participate in tax audits and advise on tax matters.

Strategic support: Provide financial analysis and forecasts to support strategic decisions. Identify cost reduction opportunities, evaluate potential investments, and adjust pricing strategies in line with market trends.

Reports and presentations: Prepare detailed financial reports, strategic presentations and ad hoc analyses for management and internal stakeholders, highlighting key findings and recommendations.

Job requirements

Technical skills

  • Strong understanding of accounting and financial principles.
  • Expertise in financial analysis, modeling and reporting
  • Advanced proficiency with spreadsheets (Excel) and familiarity with ERP or financial software.
  • Advanced bilingual proficiency in French and English required for daily collaboration with diverse stakeholders.

Personal skills

  • Ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly and concisely.
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively and independently.
  • A proactive, solution-oriented mindset.

Qualifications

  • University degree in accounting, finance or related field.
  • Professional certification (CPA, CFA or equivalent) is an asset, though demonstrated experience and achievements are equally valued.
